How to Help Out!

Want to Help? Although the Peace Corps is not a donner organization and not a source of financing for volunteers’ projects they do run a program called Peace Corps Partnership. With this volunteers and their communities searching for funding for specific projects can submit their proposals to the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps reviews the proposal and if the project meets all the criteria, such as is the project sustainable, does it target the needy in the community, etc, then they post it on a section of their web site and open up the project to donations from the public. This is an important source of funding for volunteers and I have seen many communities improved by former Partnership projects.

The youth group project that I posted up here has already been filled up by the generous donations of all you out there, to whom I say a big THANK YOU! The group was ecstatic to hear that the funding was filled so fast. I will keep you updated about the project through this blog to the best of my ability. I might even be able to get some picture up here sooner or later.

If you still want to help out there are many volunteers like me who post projects to the Peace Corps website and I know they would appreciate any help they can get. To see a list of these projects in all countries including Cameroon go to the Peace Corps Partnership Projects home page and click on any project for more information

*New* My friend Danielle, who is set to leave for her Peace Corps assignment this September, is embarking on a two week trip to Ghana this summer with the non-profit Unite for Sight. In order to go she has to raise $1,500 in donations, 100% of which will go towards providing eye care for patients in impovershed nations. If you would like to help her towards this goal please visit follow this link to a secure site for online payment

Fell free to contact me at mphelpspccam@yahoo.com if you want more information on my project with the youth group including budgets and background information on the community and the group.

I’m sure I speak for all volunteers when I say we appreciate your help!

  2. Matt, I have enjoyed reading all your blogs concerning Cameroon. My son, Andy P. is there in your same training class and your experiences has helped me understand what he is going through.

Proud of both of you and your achievements.
